Systems Song

Hey yo Ms. Johnson,  What?
Can you teach me about systems?
A-yoo I know all about systems.
All we need are some simple properties
And we get it, we got it, we get it done.

See there’s graphing, it’s the visual one
That reminds us that
a system’s two equations.
A solution,  it’s an ordered pair,
With an x and a y or it’s just not there.

Now when you’re graphing  y = mx + b,
you’ve got to start at the end, you see.
It’s the y-intercept, it’s where we begin.
Plot your point, plot your point,
plot your point, plot your point.
Now rise and run, just rise and run,
to the right we run, just rise and run.

Now if you prefer, we can cover it up.
Finding intercepts.  That’s what’s up!
Ax plus By equals C.
Cover up! Cover up!  It’s that easy!
A-yooooooooooooooooooooo- oh!

This right here is substitution.
Find a variable in isolation.
Everybody pay attention.
This right here is how…

We Substitute
    A variable
        With an expression
              Into the other equation

Now solve for that letter
     for part of the solution
          Then back to the start
              Solve for the other part.

Get out the way….
An expression is coming through.
Y’s been replaced by 3x plus 2.
Everybody loves to use substitution.
As long as you don’t forget distribution.

When you use elimination,
drop it like it’s hot, drop it likes it’s hot,
drop it like it’s hot

When you see opposite variables,
drop it cuz they’re not, drop it cuz they’re not,
drop it cuz they’re not.

Part of your new equation.
Add up what you got, add up what you got, add up what you got.
When you see opposite variables,
let them go. Add up the rest and here we go!

Elimination!  Oh Oh!
Solving Equations!  Oh Oh!
To find a letter!  Oh Oh!
And then the other!  Oh Oh!
Elimination!  Oh Oh!
Solving Equations! Oh Oh!

When you see opposite variables,
let them go. Add up the rest and here we go!
Elimination!
